The essential grooming routine of any gentleman is a ritual to be enjoyed, however brief or simple it may be. The Gentleman’s Hour is delighted to add quality British made shaving brushes to it’s range.
Our brushes are neither too big or too small, come in a medium size which allows for most shaving styles, and is available in either high quality Super Badger hair, or Synthetic. Both versions, which come down to personal preference, come in black or cream, and carry the fedora logo of The Gentleman’s Hour.
The Super Badger bristles are a very high-quality grade of Badger hair. This hair is chosen by the more discerning wet shaver for its softness on the skin and water retention qualities. These are handmade to ensure that the natural state of the tips are maintained.
The approximate height of the brushes are 98 mm (Handle height 50 mm, Knot 20mm and Loft (visible bristles) 48mm).
A gent may know all about his face, but still listens to good advice to make sure he maximises the use of his new shaving tool. We summarise our advice as follows:
Warm up the face with warm water (check The Gentleman’s Hour face wash), a shower, or the use of a hot face cloth. This will soften your stubble and open up your pores, allowing for a smooth shave.
Soak your shaving brush in warm water (not too hot as this could damage the brush and bristles) for a few minutes to prepare bristles.
Remove the shaving brush from water and remove excess water
Create a rich lather by either dipping the tips of the bristles into the shaving cream jar and using a shaving bowl or similar, or applying to face.
Apply back and forth (paint strokes) to thoroughly cover the area to be shaved.
You are now ready to shave, reapplying lather as required.
On completion of shaving, there are still some important steps to take:
Thoroughly rinse brush with clear warm water, ensuring soap and cream is removed. The bristles can be gently squeezed to help this, then lightly brushed on a towel.
The brush should be left to dry in a well ventilated area on a suitable drip stand.
As regards your face, a very important procedure remains:
Splash cold water on your face, washing off excess shaving cream and closing pores.
Once the cold water has closed your pores, apply a quality aftershave balm to assist with the recovery of your skin (remember, you have just shaved off a tiny layer of protection. It will recover, but the balm will assist the process and moisturise your skin).
Remember, you won’t necessarily get everything right first time, but trial, error and diligence will shortly pay dividends and add to the satisfaction of this time of grooming privacy…which we call ‘The Gentleman’s Hour‘!
After applying the fresh, masculine fragrance of The Gentleman’s Hour Eau De Toilette on collar, clothes or hair (but not on the skin just shaved), a chap is ready to step out from the shaving room and hail his fellow participants in the day, or evening, ahead.
